What it does

• Requires school districts and public charter schools to make reasonable efforts to send yearly information about harassment, intimidation, or bullying to all staff, parents, and students.
• Mandates ongoing training for all school staff on how to prevent, identify, and respond to bullying incidents.
• Directs the state board of education to create rules that define what must be included in the required professional development.
• Requires schools to have policies with a list of possible consequences for students who bully or threaten violence, such as counseling, diversion, restorative practices, suspension, or expulsion.
• Sets up a rule that parents of both the student accused and the student harmed must be told if an incident leads to a school suspension.
• Orders school districts to send yearly reports on bullying incidents to the state department of education.
