Subject: Special license plates. Summary/Major Elements: Current law authorizes special license plates for Pearl Harbor survivors, national guard members and purple heart recipients. o Currently special license plates are only available for passenger cars, trucks, or motor homes owned by the applicant. This bill: o Expands the categories of special license plates to include honorably discharged veterans; o Provides that all the specified special license plates shall be available for motorcycles as well as passenger cars, trucks, and motor homes; o Specifies that the veteran's license plate have a unique design, distinguishing it from other special license plates and allows for the omission of the number designating the county; o Specifies application requirements, including remittance of $50.00 to be deposited into the highway fund, and the demonstration that the applicant is eligible for the special license plate.
