Crimes and offenses-restrictions for adult
sex offenders.
Subject:
Prohibiting adult
sex offenders from access to school properties as specified.
Summary/Major Elements:
Under current law, sex
offenders do not face any residency restrictions in Wyoming.
This bill:
o
Prohibits persons who are 18
years of age or older and required to register as sex offenders from being upon
or remaining on school properties if there is reason to believe children under
the age of 18 are present;
o
Prohibits such persons from
loitering within 1,000 feet from the property line of school property;
o
Prohibits such persons from
being on any vehicle owned or leased by a school to transport children if
children under age 18 are present in the vehicle;
o
Prohibits such persons from
residing within 1,000 feet of a property where a school is located;
o
Provides exceptions to the
prohibitions as specified;
o
Provides penalties of not
more than 6 months imprisonment or a fine of not more than $750.00, or both for
violating the restrictions;
o
Allows school districts to
develop more stringent safety standards for employees and nonemployees while
they are in district facilities or on district properties;
