Subject: Providing for workplace safety grants. Summary/Major Elements: This act creates a workplace safety grant program. Under the program, the department of workforce services may provide grants to public or private employers to increase and provide for effective participation in workplace safety programs created and administered under the occupational safety statutes and the workers compensation statutes. Grant recipients must document the number of employees covered under the workplace safety program and decreases in occupation hazards accomplished under the program. Grants under the program shall be conditioned on the recipient initiating or participating in a workplace safety program created and administered under the occupational safety statutes and the workers compensation statutes, an in-cash cost sharing contribution of at least 10% and no grant shall be made to any individual employer in excess of $10,000. This act transfers two positions from the department of workforce services to the occupational health and safety division. This act further authorizes an additional five positions to the occupational health and safety division. All seven of these positions are limited to increasing occupational health and safety consultations. Comments: Report Required: The department of workforce services must annually report to the joint minerals, business and economic development interim committee.
