BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:

Relating to the regional educational attendance area and small municipal school district fund; 1
relating to Mt. Edgecumbe High School; and relating to teacher housing. 2

* Section 1. AS 14.11.025(a) is amended to read: 4
(a) In addition to other appropriations and funding sources, t he department 5
may make disbursements [PROVIDE GRANT FUNDING] from the fund 6
established under AS 14.11.030 to 7
(1) provide grant funding to a school district that is a regional 8
educational attendance area or a small municipal school district; 9
(2) fund construction and major maintenance projects at Mt. 10
Edgecumbe High School; and 11
(3) fund major maintenance projects for housing that is 12
(A) owned by the state, a regional educational attendance 13
area, or a small municipal school district; 14

(B) located in a regional educational attendance area or a 1
small municipal school district; and 2
( C ) p r o v i d e d t o t e a c h e r s working in the regional 3
educational attendance area or the small municipal school district. 4
* Sec. 2. AS 14.11.030(a) is amended to read: 5
(a) The regional educational a ttendance area and small municip al school 6
district school fund is created a s an account in the general fu nd to be used, in addition 7
to other funding sources, to fund projects approved under AS 14 .11.025 for the costs 8
of school construction and major maintenance in regional educat ional attendance 9
areas, in [AND] small municipal school districts , and at Mt. Edgecumbe High 10
School and for major maintenance projects for teacher housing d escribed in 11
AS 14.11.025(a)(3). The primary function of the fund is to fund school constructi on 12
projects. 13
* Sec. 3. AS 14.11.030(b) is amended to read: 14
(b) Legislative appropriations , including appropriations of in terest earned on 15
the fund, shall be deposited in the fund established under this section. [THE 16
UNOBLIGATED AND UNEXPENDED CASH BALANCE OF THE FUND MAY 17
NOT EXCEED $70,000,000.] 18
