"An Act relating to the duties of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute; and relating to 1
the seafood marketing assessment." 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 3
* Section 1. AS 16.51.100 is amended to read: 4
Sec. 16.51.100. Duties of board. The board shall 5
(1) conduct programs of educati on, research, advertising, or s ales 6
promotion designed to accomplish the purposes of this chapter; 7
(2) promote all species of seafood and their by-products that are 8
harvested in the state and processed for sale; 9
(3) develop market-oriented quality specifications for Alaska seafood 10
to be used in developing a high quality image for Alaska seafoo d in domestic and 11
world markets, and adopt and di stribute recommendations regardi ng the handling of 12
seafood from the moment of capture or harvest to final distribution; 13
(4) prepare market research a nd product development plans for the 14

promotion of all species of seafood and their by-products that are harvested in the state 1
and processed for sale; 2
(5) submit an annual report to the governor describing the act ivities of 3
the institute and notify the legislature that the report is available; 4
(6) develop marketing programs based on the "inspection" and 5
"premium quality" seals designed under AS 17.20.066 and use the seals in advertising 6
and promotion efforts of the institute. 7
* Sec. 2. AS 16.51.180(7) is amended to read: 8
(7) "seafood" means finfish, shellfish, mariculture products, and fish 9
by-products, including [BUT NOT LIMITED TO] salmon, halibut, he rring, flounder, 10
crab, clam, cod, shrimp, and pollock; in this paragraph, "mariculture product" has 11
the meaning given to "aquatic farm product" [, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE 12
AQUATIC FARM PRODUCTS AS DEFINED] in AS 16.40.199. 13
