Purpose

Appropriates
$1,500,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2027 to the Corrections
Oversight Fund (Fund).

Laws 2025, Chapter
258
established the Independent Correctional Oversight Office (Office) to:
1) monitor the conditions of confinement and assess the Arizona Department of
Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry's compliance with state and federal
law; 2) provide information, as appropriate, on inmate rights; 3) promote
public awareness and understanding of the rights and responsibilities of
inmates; and 4) inspect each correctional facility at least once every two
years.

The Office
administers the Fund and the Director of the Office may accept and spend
federal monies and private gifts and donations to carry out the purposes of the
Office. The Fund consists of legislative appropriations, federal monies and
private grants, gifts, contributions and devises (

Appropriating monies to the corrections
oversight fund.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.
Appropriation;
corrections oversight fund; use of monies

A. The sum of $1,500,000 is
appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2026-2027 to the
corrections oversight fund established by section 41-7007, Arizona
Revised Statutes.

B. The director of the
independent correctional oversight office may use the monies appropriated in
subsection A of this section for the purposes of title 41, chapter 59, Arizona
Revised Statutes.
