What This Bill Does

  • Requires operators of petting zoos and similar places where people can touch or feed live animals to make sure everyone washes their hands with soap and water or uses hand sanitizer right after leaving the animal area.

  • Requires operators to keep animals in enclosed areas so only people who enter through a designated entrance can touch them.
  • Requires each place to have at least one adult supervisor watching over the area where people interact with animals, making sure everyone follows handwashing rules.
  • Allows the Department of Health Services (DHS) to make rules about how these places should follow and enforce the handwashing requirements.
