Purpose

Appropriates
$5,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2027 to the Department
of Public Safety (DPS) for artificial intelligence relating to border security.

Background

DPS is
responsible for creating and coordinating services for use by local law
enforcement agencies in protecting the public safety and for formulating plans
with a view to establish modern services for the prevention of crime, the
apprehension of violators, the training of law enforcement personnel and the
promotion of public safety. DPS consists of four divisions: 1) Arizona Highway
Patrol; 2) Narcotics Enforcement and Criminal Investigation; 3) Scientific
Criminal Analysis; and 4) Training and Education (A.R.S. ��

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.
Appropriation;
department of public safety; artificial intelligence; border security

A. The sum of $5,000,000 is
appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2026-2027 to the
department of public safety for artificial intelligence relating to border
security.

B. The department of public
safety may distribute monies appropriated in subsection A of this section to
local law enforcement agencies to enforce border security by using artificial intelligence.
