WHEREAS, the first Junior League was founded in 1901 as a charitable 18
nonprofit organization of women and joined together with other Junior Leagues 19
in 1921 to form an association now known as The Association of Junior Leagues 20
International, Inc.; and 21

WHEREAS, the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. is an organization of 23
women in the Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas area whose mission is 24
to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through 25
volunteer action, collaboration, and training; and 26
27
WHEREAS, in 1926, a group of civically minded women met at the home of 28
Mrs. A. H. Whitmarsh to discuss the formation of an organization that would 29
become the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc., and later held a charter 30
luncheon and elected officers on February 26, 1926; and 31

WHEREAS, from its inception, the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. 33
patterned its constitution on the constitution of the Association of Junior 34
Leagues of America with the intention of becoming part of that organization, 35
and subsequently achieved that goal in 1947; and 36

WHEREAS, the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. has made countless 2
positive impacts across its local community for one hundred (100) years 3
through projects such as the establishment of a pediatric dental clinic 4
providing free services to children in need in the 1920s, providing prenatal 5
and hospital care free of cost to women in need in the 1930s, having members 6
serve as volunteers at St. Michael's and Wadley hospitals and leading the 7
formation of the Wadley Hospital Auxiliary in the 1950s, providing funding 8
for the Wadley Hospital Research Laboratory in the 1960s, providing drug 9
prevention programs to children during the 1970s and 1980s, establishing the 10
Children's Dental Clinic and providing free services to children in need 11
during the 1990s, and through providing financial support and countless hours 12
of volunteer support to non-profit organizations in the region throughout the 13
history of the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc.; 14

WHEREAS, members of the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. have adopted 16
and supported numerous community projects throughout its history, including 17
Teacher Take Wing, Star Lab, Shoes for the Soul, Clothes for a Cause, Open 18
Hearts Food Pantry, and Packs for a Purpose; and 19

WHEREAS, on May 19, 2026, the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. will 21
celebrate the centennial of the organization at the Texarkana Regional Arts 22
Center in Texarkana, Texas, 23

NOW THEREFORE, 25
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 26
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 27

THAT the House of Representatives: 29
(1) Honor the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. for its role in 30
supporting its local community for one hundred (100) years; and 31
(2) Commemorate the centennial celebration of the Junior League 32
of Texarkana, Inc. on May 19, 2026. 33

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 35
provided to the leaders of the Junior League of Texarkana, Inc., by the Chief 36
