WHEREAS, Nucor Corporation is the largest steel and steel products 17
producer in the United States and the global leader in steelmaking 18
sustainability; and 19

WHEREAS, Nucor is the largest recycler of any type of material in North 21
America; and 22
23
WHEREAS, Nucor recycles approximately twenty million (20,000,000) tons 24
of ferrous scrap metal annually to produce new steel that is one hundred 25
percent (100%) recyclable; and 26
27
WHEREAS, by recycling scrap to make new steel, Nucor’s greenhouse gas 28
intensity is less than one-fourth (1/4) of the global steelmaking average and 29
one-fifth (1/5) of the intensity of a traditional blast furnace producer; and 30

WHEREAS, Nucor has been an important part of Arkansas’s economy since 32
1987 with the construction of its first steel mill in the state; and 33

WHEREAS, Nucor has steadily grown and invested in Arkansas, currently 35
operating five (5) facilities in the state: 36

(1) Nucor-Yamato in Mississippi County; 1
(2) Nucor Steel Arkansas in Mississippi County; 2
(3) Nucor Coatings Corporation in Mississippi County; 3
(4) Nucor Skyline Armorel in Mississippi County; and 4
(5) Centria in Grant County; and 5

WHEREAS, Nucor employs more than thirty-two thousand (32,000) 7
employees, known as teammates, working safely at over three hundred (300) 8
operating facilities in North America, with approximately two thousand seven 9
hundred seventy-two (2,772) teammates throughout Arkansas; and 10

WHEREAS, in thirty-nine (39) years of operations in Arkansas, Nucor has 12
had a practice of never laying off a single teammate at its steel mills and 13
Nucor teammates all share in the success of the company; and 14
15
WHEREAS, the median pay for Nucor’s production teammates over the last 16
three (3) years has averaged more than one hundred thousand dollars 17
($100,000) per year; and 18

WHEREAS, to reinforce its culture, the majority of Nucor’s teammates 20
below the officer level are treated as if they are owners of the company, 21
historically receiving ten percent (10%) of Nucor’s earnings in a profit-22
sharing plan in addition to their salary; and 23

WHEREAS, Nucor has invested more than one billion dollars 25
($1,000,000,000) in its Arkansas steel mills in the last five (5) years to 26
modernize and upgrade the capabilities of the facilities; and 27

WHEREAS, the western hemisphere’s largest beams are produced at Nucor-29
Yamato Steel and Arkansas-made steel can be found in iconic American 30
structures such as the One World Trade Center, the world-renowned Donald W. 31
Reynolds Razorback Stadium, and the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium; 32
and 33

WHEREAS, Nucor is committed to education in Arkansas, offering all 35
Nucor teammates and their dependents a scholarship in the amount of four 36

thousand dollars ($4,000) per year for college or vocational school, which 1
nationwide has amounted to more than one hundred fifteen million dollars 2
($115,000,000) awarded to nearly twenty-five thousand (25,000) children since 3
the program’s inception in 1974, with nearly twelve million dollars 4
($12,000,000) awarded in Arkansas, 5

NOW THEREFORE, 7
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 8
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 9

THAT the Senate recognize and celebrate Nucor Day at the State Capitol 11
Building on April 15, 2026. 12

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 14
transmitted to the Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation by the 15
Secretary of the Senate. 16
