SENATE AND TO THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. 20

WHEREAS, John Pendleton Reed, an important and valued member of the 22
staff of the Senate who served in the role of public information officer, 23
officially retired on November 30, 2025, after over thirty-five (35) years of 24
steadfast commitment to the Senate and to the State of Arkansas; and 25
26
WHEREAS, John Reed was born on October 14, 1954, at the Willow Run Air 27
Force Base in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Roy Reed and Norma Reed; and 28
29
WHEREAS, as a child, John Reed moved around the United States with his 30
family as his father, Roy Reed, took various assignments as a newspaperman, 31
first in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Roy Reed was in the United States Air 32
Force and ran the Willow Run Air Force Base newspaper, and then in Atlanta, 33
Georgia, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans, Louisiana as part of Roy Reed's 34
job at The New York Times; and 35

WHEREAS, John Reed attended public schools in Little Rock, Atlanta, and 1
New Orleans before graduating in 1973 from Benjamin Franklin High School in 2
New Orleans; and 3

WHEREAS, John Reed attended Yale University, from which he graduated in 5
1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature; and 6
7
WHEREAS, John Reed, who is fluent in both written and spoken Spanish, 8
spent his junior year of college abroad in Madrid, Spain, at the St. Louis 9
University in Madrid; and 10

WHEREAS, in April 1980, after graduating from college, John Reed moved 12
to Madrid, Spain, to work at the Institutos Mangold, where he taught English 13
as a foreign language, worked as an administrator, conducted placement 14
interviews, operated the language laboratory, and wrote test materials; and 15

WHEREAS, in October 1983, John Reed moved from Madrid, Spain, to Pine 17
Bluff, Arkansas, to work at the Pine Bluff Commercial, where he was a 18
business and political issues reporter; and 19

WHEREAS, in February 1985, John Reed went to work for the Arkansas 21
Gazette, where he became the Capitol beat reporter and covered the 22
legislature, state government, and gubernatorial and United States Senate 23
races and where he won multiple awards for his reporting on teenage 24
pregnancies in Arkansas; and 25

WHEREAS, on August 1, 1990, John Reed began his employment with the 27
Senate as public information officer; and 28

WHEREAS, from the first day that he set foot in the Senate chamber, 30
John Reed has demonstrated rare loyalty as a state employee and a deep 31
dedication to the legislative institution and its members; and 32

WHEREAS, throughout his over thirty-five (35) years of service with the 34
Senate, John Reed's institutional knowledge has contributed greatly to the 35
operation of the Senate; and 36

WHEREAS, as public information officer of the Senate, John Reed carried 2
out his responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism; and 3

WHEREAS, John Reed has left an indelible mark upon the Senate through 5
his dedication and commitment to serving the people of Arkansas; and 6

WHEREAS, during his service as public information officer of the 8
Senate, John Reed also found time to raise two (2) sons, Bernard and Vincent, 9
and to spend time with his wife, Angie Clingmon-Reed, whom he married on 10
January 26, 2013, during the Regular Session of the Eighty-Nineth General 11
Assembly; and 12

WHEREAS, in his retirement, John Reed will have time to focus on his 14
hobbies, which include reading mystery books, supporting the Atlanta Braves, 15
the New Orleans Saints, and the Arkansas Razorbacks, listening to music, and 16
re-learning how to play the guitar; and 17

WHEREAS, John Reed will be sorely missed by the staff and members of 19
the Senate for his expertise and his institutional knowledge, 20
21
NOW THEREFORE, 22
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 23
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 24

THAT the Senate honor John Pendleton Reed for his exemplary and 26
dedicated service to the Senate and to the State of Arkansas. 27

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the staff and members of the Senate join in 29
congratulating John Pendleton Reed on his retirement, in expressing their 30
heartfelt gratitude to John Pendleton Reed for his over thirty-five (35) 31
years of outstanding service to the Senate, and in wishing John Pendleton 32
Reed the very best in the years ahead. 33

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 35
presented to John Pendleton Reed by the Secretary of the Senate. 36
