WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters was founded in 1920, six (6) months 23
prior to the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States 24
Constitution, to encourage informed and active participation in government; 25
and 26

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arkansas traces its roots to the 28
state’s early equal suffrage movement and has, for more than seventy (70) 29
years since its reestablishment in 1953, served the people of Arkansas 30
through grassroots, nonpartisan civic engagement; and 31

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arkansas is a nonpartisan 33
organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates or political 34
parties and is dedicated to empowering voters and strengthening democracy 35
through education, advocacy, and community engagement; and 36

WHEREAS, a strong democracy depends on informed and active 2
participation by citizens and a continued commitment to transparency, civic 3
education, and public engagement; and 4

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arkansas supports civic 6
understanding by educating the public on Arkansas government, voting laws, 7
and public policy issues, and by encouraging constructive dialogue and 8
engagement with elected officials; and 9

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arkansas continues to expand its 11
reach across communities large and small, working to grow membership, 12
increase civic participation, and build a more inclusive and representative 13
democracy; and 14

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arkansas hosts League Day at the 16
Capitol, an event that brings members from across the state to observe the 17
legislative process and engage with their elected officials; and 18

WHEREAS, events such as League Day at the Capitol provide an 20
opportunity for Arkansans from across the state to observe the legislative 21
process, engage with their elected officials, and gain a deeper understanding 22
of state government, 23

NOW THEREFORE, 25
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 26
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 27

THAT the Senate recognize the League of Women Voters of Arkansas for 29
its enduring contributions to voter education, nonpartisan civic engagement, 30
and the strengthening of democracy in the State of Arkansas. 31

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Senate commend the members and volunteers of 33
the League of Women Voters of Arkansas for their continued dedication to 34
empowering voters and promoting participation in government. 35
