WHEREAS, the week of May 3 through May 9, 2026, has been designated as 20
Public Service Recognition Week to honor employees of the federal government 21
and state and local governments and members of the uniformed services who are 22
entrusted with missions fundamental to the United States and deliver services 23
upon which Americans depend; and 24

WHEREAS, twenty-one thousand (21,000) federal government employees, 26
seventy thousand (70,000) state government employees, and one hundred 27
fourteen thousand (114,000) local government employees serve the public in 28
every county and city across the state of Arkansas; and 29

WHEREAS, public servants make substantial contributions to Arkansas 31
communities through teaching children and adults, protecting life and 32
property, improving health, licensing businesses and professionals, building 33
infrastructure, running elections, supporting families, managing natural 34
resources and public lands, developing the workforce and the economy, and 35
enforcing laws and regulations that undergird private-sector growth, protect 36

consumers, and sustain the conditions for a competitive and innovative 1
marketplace; and 2

WHEREAS, public servants are critical to protecting the safety and 4
security of Arkansans, working every day, often at great personal risk, to 5
prevent harm, respond to crises and safeguard the lives and well-being of the 6
communities they serve; and 7

WHEREAS, public service is a noble calling involving a variety of 9
challenging and rewarding professions, and highly skilled and trained 10
individuals offer their knowledge, effort, and expertise in support of the 11
public good, 12

NOW THEREFORE, 14
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 15
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 16

THAT the Senate: 18
(1) Commend the dedication, professionalism, and patriotism of 19
the public servants of the State of Arkansas who deliver essential services 20
to the people of Arkansas; 21
(2) Recognize the indispensable role of public servants in 22
strengthening the Arkansas economy, protecting the safety and security of the 23
public, safeguarding individual rights, and sustaining the foundations of 24
democratic self-governance; 25
(3) Honor the contributions of all public servants during Public 26
Service Recognition Week, May 3 through May 9, 2026, and throughout the year; 27
and 28
(4) Call upon the people of the state of Arkansas to honor and 29
acknowledge the service of those who work on their behalf. 30

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 32
provided to the leadership of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Society 33
for Public Administration by the Secretary of Senate. 34
