SB 717, Richardson.
Ken Maddy California Cancer Registry.
Existing law requires the Director of Public Health to establish a statewide system for the collection of information determining the incidence of cancer, known as the Ken Maddy California Cancer Registry. Existing law sets forth the dates by which, among other things, the statewide cancer reporting system is required to be fully operational and the deadline by which the director is required to submit an implementation and funding schedule to the Legislature. Existing law requires the department to maximize the use of available federal funds in establishing the statewide system.
This bill would require the director to maintain
statewide and regional infrastructures and systems,
as well as a statewide cancer reporting system. The bill would delete those provisions relating to the dates. The bill would require the director to submit an implementation and funding schedule to the Legislature on or before January 1, 2027. In establishing the statewide system, the bill would require the department to partner with the state’s regional cancer registries to maximize the use of available federal funds.
