Amendments

SA 1

1 • Poore

PWB 3/11/26

Plain English: This amendment changes Delaware's state primary election rules so that all important dates depend on when the presidential primary is held instead of using fixed calendar days.

  • The deadline for candidates to file their paperwork will now be set as 60 days before the primary election date, replacing the old rule of February or March deadlines.
  • In years with a presidential primary, state primaries must happen on the same day as that federal vote.
  • In years without a presidential primary, the state primary will still occur on the specific calendar day when a presidential primary would normally be held if one existed.
  • The amendment text does not specify exactly which date in September is used for non-presidential years because it relies on a future calculation based on federal rules.
  • The exact dates for the next election cannot be determined from this text alone since they depend on when national parties schedule their presidential primaries.
