HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 126

RECOGNIZING APRIL 13–14, 2026, AS YOM HASHOAH, HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY.

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is observed on the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, which begins at sundown on April 13, 2026, and concludes at nightfall on April 14, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah serves as a day of solemn remembrance for the approximately six million Jewish men, women, and children who were systematically murdered by the Nazi regime and its collaborators during the Holocaust, as well as millions of other innocent victims persecuted under Nazi tyranny; and

WHEREAS, the Holocaust represented the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of the Jewish people by the Nazi regime and its collaborators; and

WHEREAS, this day also honors the courage, resistance, and resilience of Jewish individuals who defied oppression, including those who participated in acts of resistance such as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943; and

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah is observed through moments of silence, candle-lighting ceremonies, educational programs, synagogue services, and remembrance activities across the State of Delaware, the United States, and throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes the importance of remembering and honoring the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and educating future generations about the atrocities committed so that such acts are never repeated; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative to combat Antisemitism, racism, hatred, and all forms of bigotry through education, awareness, and remembrance; and

WHEREAS, the lessons of the Holocaust remain profoundly relevant today, reminding us of the dangers of intolerance and the responsibility of all people to uphold human dignity, justice, and respect for all.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that sundown on April 13, 2026, through nightfall on April 14, 2026, is hereby recognized as Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
