HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 36

RECOGNIZING APRIL 23RD TO APRIL 24TH, 2025 AS YOM HASHOAH.

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is observed on the 27th day of Nisan in the Hebrew calendar, which begins at sundown on April 23rd and ends at nightfall on April 24th; and

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah serves as a day of commemoration for the approximately six million Jewish men, women, and children who were murdered by the Nazi regime and its collaborators during the Holocaust; and

WHEREAS, this solemn day also honors the courage, resistance, and resilience of Jewish individuals who defied the oppressors, including those who participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943; and

WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah is observed with moments of silence, candle-lighting ceremonies, educational programs, synagogue services, and remembrance activities across Delaware and throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes the importance of remembering and honoring the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, as well as educating future generations about the atrocities committed to prevent such acts from occurring again; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative to combat antisemitism, racism, hatred, and all forms of bigotry through education, awareness, and remembrance; and

WHEREAS, the lessons of the Holocaust remain relevant today, reminding us of the dangers of intolerance and the need to promote human dignity and justice for all.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that sundown on April 23rd, 2025, through nightfall on April 24th, 2025, is hereby recognized as Yom HaShoah.
