HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 48

CELEBRATING HOMESCHOOL AWARENESS MONTH IN MAY 2025.

WHEREAS, there are approximately 3.7 million children who are homeschooled in the U.S.; and

WHEREAS, homeschoolers make up 6.73% of all school-age children (K-12) in the U.S.; and

WHEREAS, parents and guardians report that about 5.2 percent of children ages 5 to 17 received academic homeschooling; and

WHEREAS, for 15% of parents of homeschooling children, a reason for homeschooling is a physical or mental health problem that has lasted six months or more; and

WHEREAS, Pew Research reports 21% of homeschooled children’s parents say they choose to homeschool because their child has other special needs that they feel the school cannot or will not meet; and

WHEREAS, the current count for Delaware Homeschoolers is nearly 4,500; and

WHEREAS, the number of registered homeschools here in Delaware is 2,500.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153

General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that Homeschool Awareness Month is celebrated in May and aims to demonstrate how homeschooling can be a better option than regular schooling for many kids.
