HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 79
RECOGNIZING THE CREW AND FAMILIES OF THE USS DELAWARE (SSN-791) FOR THEIR CONTINUTED DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
WHEREAS, the USS Delaware (SSN-791) is a Virginia-class attack submarine built for the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, construction began in September of 2013 and the submarine was christened on October 20, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the USS Delaware is 377 feet long, 33 feet wide, and propelled by nuclear power; and
WHEREAS, the USS Delaware (SSN-791) Ship’s Crest is a hand-drawn theme which represents the simple submarine crest of WWII, a modern submarine silhouette around a Fighting Blue Hen while two dolphins adorn the bottom of the crest, one silver and one gold, which represents the enlisted and officer warfare insignia; and
WHEREAS, the USS Delaware was the first ever US ship to be commissioned while underwater due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, the USS Delaware has 15 officers and 117 enlisted crew members on board; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware has served as the namesake for seven American warships; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware Submarine Association was founded in 2020 to serve as the civilian support organization for the USS Delaware (SSN-791).
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the General Assembly hereby recognizes and commends the crew and families of the USS Delaware (SSN-791) for the continued dedication to the United States Armed Forces.
SYNOPSIS
This Resolution recognizes and commends the crew and family members of the USS Delaware (SSN-791) for their continued dedication to the United States Armed Forces.
It also recognizes the Delaware Submarine Association for its role in supporting the morale, wellbeing, and recreation of the crew and families of the USS Delaware, as well to encourage, advocate, and generate statewide support for the crew of the submarine.
