HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 81
DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 8 TO 14, 2025, AS "COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION WEEK" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS,
Computer Science Education Week was founded as a call to action to raise awareness about the need to elevate computer science education at all levels;
and
WHEREAS,
Computer Science Education Week highlights the importance of computer science because it teaches problem solving, analytical skills, and is an essential skill in the modern job market;
and
WHEREAS,
Computer Science Education Week has resulted in an increase in students’ participation in computer science;
and
WHEREAS,
Computer Science Education Week has led to millions of students participating in the Hour of Code, which is a global event in which students code for an hour;
and
WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week is expected to have over 200,000 Hour of Code activities in over 180 countries in 2025;
and
WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week was introduced due to the declining enrollments in computer science studies;
and
WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week allows the goal of moving computing into the core of K-12 education to move forward;
and
WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week remains a community-led effort;
and
WHEREAS, Delaware has 6% more IT professionals in the State than the national average, which makes computer science education awareness important;
and
WHEREAS, Delaware Pathways integrates computer science and IT education into public-school career pathways so that middle and high schoolers can gain computing skills and workplace exposure;
and
WHEREAS,
Computer Science Education Week continues to shepherd this open grassroots celebration of computer science;
and
WHEREAS, research shows that jobs in the computer science field are expected to grow around 13% by 2026 which is much faster than other occupations;
and
WHEREAS, the growth in the job market for computer science will encourage students to take related classes in higher education;
and
WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week is celebrated each year during the week of Grace Hopper’s birthday, who invented the first compiler and coined the term “bug”.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153

General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the week of December 8, 2025, to December 14, 2025, be designated as “Computer Science Education Week”.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Malcolm Coley of ReadyPromptOne is commended for his innovative work in the field of computer science.
SYNOPSIS
This Concurrent Resolution designates the week of December 8 to 14, 2025, as "Computer Science Education Week" and commends Malcolm Coley of ReadyPromptOne for his innovative work in the field of computer science.
