HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 20

RECOGNIZING JANUARY 26TH THROUGH FEBRUARY 1ST AS CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, since the first Catholic school opened in Delaware in 1830, Catholic education has steadily grown in popularity, a popularity grounded in an abiding record of student success and accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, the week of January 26th through February 1st has been designated as Catholic Schools Week in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Catholic schools serve over 8,800 students in 21 schools; and

WHEREAS, the Catholic education is based upon the gospel of Jesus and his message of peace, justice and concern for humanity; and

WHEREAS, the Catholic school curriculum stresses academic excellence as well as the development of the entire student spiritually, mentally, and physically, and encourages students to use their skills for the betterment of society; and

WHEREAS, the values, moral teachings, and discipline offered in Catholic schools have provided their students with the skills to take advantage of professional opportunities and to become productive members of society.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware that the week of January 26

through February 1

, 2026 is hereby recognized as Catholic Schools Week in Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be presented to The Most Reverend William E. Koenig, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington.
