SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 145
DESIGNATING APRIL 11, 2026 AS “NATIONAL PET DAY” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, pets provide companionship, unconditional love, and numerous health benefits to individuals and families throughout the State of Delaware; and
WHEREAS, responsible pet ownership is vital to ensuring the well-being of domestic animals and fostering humane communities; and
WHEREAS, National Pet Day, observed annually on April 11
th
, was founded to recognize the joy that pets bring to our lives and to encourage the adoption of animals in need of loving homes; and
WHEREAS, animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout Delaware work tirelessly to provide care, medical attention, and second chances for abandoned and homeless animals; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware is proud to be recognized as a no-kill state, demonstrating its commitment to the humane treatment and welfare of animals by ensuring that healthy and treatable pets are not euthanized due to lack of space or resources; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Committee on Capital Improvement has played a significant role in advancing animal welfare through its support for shelter infrastructure, veterinary services, and by promoting responsible pet ownership; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes the importance of educating the public on the benefits of pet adoption, spaying and neutering, and responsible pet care; and
WHEREAS, National Pet Day serves as an opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of pets on individuals and families and to promote efforts that enhance animal welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, hereby recognizes April 11, 2025 as National Pet Day, and encourages all Delawareans to show appreciation for their pets, support for local shelters, and consider options including fostering and adoption as a means to provide animals with safe and loving homes.
SYNOPSIS
This Senate Concurrent Resolution designates April 11th, 2026, as “National Pet Day” in the State of Delaware.
