SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 146

RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 19, 2026, AS “WORLD CHOLANGIOCARCINOMA DAY” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation has grown to become the leading global resource in research, education, and public awareness; and

WHEREAS, Team Cure Cholangio focuses on raising awareness in the State of Delaware and raising much needed research monies for this underfunded cancer; and

WHEREAS, cholangiocarcinoma, also known as bile duct cancer, is a cancer that occurs in the bile ducts in or outside the liver that play a key role in the digestive cycle; and

WHEREAS, there are 3 types of cholangiocarcinoma: intrahepatic, extrahepatic and perihilar, and the mortality rate has increased dramatically in the last decade; and

WHEREAS, an estimated 12,000 people in the United States develop cholangiocarcinoma each year, with an average age of diagnosis of 45; and

WHEREAS, early detection can be key in treating cholangiocarcinoma, but only a small number of cases are found early enough to be removed by surgery; and

WHEREAS, patients are typically diagnosed at a late stage due to no validated early method of detection; and

WHEREAS, there is currently no cure for cholangiocarcinoma; and

WHEREAS, cholangiocarcinoma is a rare cancer with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 20%; and

WHEREAS, increased awareness and research of cholangiocarcinoma could lead to earlier detection and more successful treatments in the future; and

WHEREAS, foundations, research and teaching hospitals, and advocacy groups have come together to raise awareness with World Cholangiocarcinoma Day.

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that February 19, 2026, is recognized as World Cholangiocarcinoma Day.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State of Delaware is committed to the continued support of research for treatment and a cure of cholangiocarcinoma.
