SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 147
RECOGNIZING THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF DELAWARE LIBRARIES AND THEIR SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, Delaware Libraries are celebrating 125 years of serving the community, strengthening literacy across the lifespan, and sparking creativity and interest in new passions; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware State Library Commission was founded in 1901 by the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware has focused on strategic investments in library facilities and technology infrastructure and services to support the future; and
WHEREAS, 2026 marks the 20
th
anniversary of the Delaware Library Catalog, which includes over two million books, the Library of Things, and free museum passes for Delaware Library Card holders; and
WHEREAS, only half of Delawareans have a free Delaware Library Card, yet all Delawareans live within seven miles of a library; and
WHEREAS, Delaware Libraries are the backbone for the Delaware Literacy Alliance, joining forces with all literacy partners; and
WHEREAS, Delawareans can seek out essential social services and workforce support within their public library; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly recognizes the hundreds of dedicated librarians, public servants, and library advocates supporting the library system in schools and communities across the State.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153

General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the General Assembly recognizes and celebrates 125 years of service by Delaware Libraries, honors their commitment to literacy and community engagement, and commends the librarians and advocates who support schools and communities across the State.
