SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 171

DESIGNATING APRIL 19 - 25, 2026, AS “DELAWARE LIBRARY WEEK” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, public libraries are important institutions that provide free and equitable access to information, technology, and resources that enrich the lives of all Delawareans; and

WHEREAS, libraries in communities, in schools, and on campuses play a vital role in the education, enrichment, and empowerment of Delawareans of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; and

WHEREAS, school libraries and school librarians are vital partners with students, families, and other teachers in promoting student success and achievement; and

WHEREAS, academic libraries are essential to the success of colleges and universities, providing students and faculty with access to a wealth of information resources, research assistance, and learning spaces; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated staff of libraries work tirelessly to provide exceptional services and resources, enriching the lives of their community members; and

WHEREAS, the American Library Association has designated the week of April 19 - 25, 2026, as National Library Week; and

‎ WHEREAS, the Delaware Library Association has designated the week of April 19 - 25, 2026, as “Delaware Library Week,” a time to celebrate the contributions of public libraries, school libraries, academic libraries, and the librarians and library workers who so ably serve their communities, schools, and campuses.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 19 - 25, 2026, is designated as “Delaware Library Week,” and all Delawareans are encouraged to visit their local libraries, participate in library programs and events, and show their support for these valuable community resources.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the librarians and library workers of Delaware are commended for their tireless dedication to serving their communities, schools, and campuses, and the General Assembly thanks them for their vital contributions to our state's education, culture, and quality of life.

SYNOPSIS
