SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 180

DESIGNATING MAY 6, 2026, AS “INTERNATIONAL WISHBONE DAY” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Wishbone Day is observed annually on May 6 as an international awareness day dedicated to increasing understanding of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as brittle bone disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes bones to be extremely fragile and prone to fractures; and

WHEREAS, OI affects individuals of all ages, races, and backgrounds, and manifests with varying degrees of severity, often leading to significant and lifelong physical challenges; and

WHEREAS, while the exact number of people living with OI is unknown, it is estimated that approximately 40,000 individuals in the United States are affected by this condition; and

WHEREAS, Wishbone Day provides an opportunity to unite communities in raising awareness, promoting understanding, and celebrating the strength and perseverance of individuals living with OI; and

WHEREAS, Delaware is home to many individuals and families affected by OI, and their resilience serves as a source of inspiration for the broader community; and

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware remains committed to championing the rights of individuals with rare diseases by fostering inclusion, raising public awareness, and supporting ongoing research into the causes, treatments, and potential cures for OI and other rare conditions; and

WHEREAS, by recognizing Wishbone Day, we affirm our support for those affected by OI, celebrate their courage, and honor the efforts of healthcare providers, advocates, and organizations working tirelessly to improve quality of life for this community.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that May 6, 2026, is hereby designated as “International Wishbone Day” in the State of Delaware.
