SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 197

RECOGNIZING MAY 20, 2026, AS PUBLIC HEALTH ADVOCACY DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Delaware’s public health workforce, community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and advocates work collaboratively to address critical health challenges including chronic disease, mental health and substance use disorders, preventing the spread of infectious diseases, maternal health, and health disparities; and

WHEREAS, these public health advocates play a vital role in protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of Delaware residents, and tirelessly work towards disease prevention by promoting healthy behaviors and addressing the social and environmental conditions that influence health outcomes; and

WHEREAS, prevention programs and community-based health initiatives strengthen the health of individuals and families while supporting the sustainability of Delaware’s healthcare system; and

WHEREAS, public health efforts contribute to longer life expectancy, healthier communities, and reduced healthcare costs through increasing public awareness of acute and chronic conditions, early intervention, and coordinated care; and

WHEREAS, Public Health Advocacy Day provides an opportunity to bring together public health professionals, community leaders, policymakers, and advocates to highlight the importance of prevention, elevate key health priorities, and strengthen partnerships across Delaware’s public health sector; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the contributions of public health professionals and organizations helps raise awareness of the essential role public health plays in improving health outcomes and building healthier communities across the State of Delaware.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that May 20, 2026, is hereby recognized as Public Health Advocacy Day in the State of Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the General Assembly encourage all Delaware residents, as well as the public health professionals, community organizations, and healthcare partners who serve our residents, to recognize the importance of Public Health and support efforts to strengthen Delaware’s entire healthcare system and improve the health and wellbeing of all Delawareans.

SYNOPSIS
