SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 67

RECOGNIZING MAY 2025 AS "FOSTER CARE MONTH" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes that foster parents provide a valuable and important support system to some of Delaware’s most vulnerable children and their families; and

WHEREAS, foster families are an integral part of the professional team working to protect and nurture children and strengthen families; and

WHEREAS, foster parents generously devote their homes, time, and families to give children experiencing foster care the love, support, and guidance they need to thrive emotionally, educationally, and socially; and

WHEREAS, as of April 7, 2025, there are 525 children and youth experiencing foster care, and as of January 31, 2025, there are a total of 358 foster homes in the state; and

WHEREAS, children experiencing foster care are resilient and deserving of lives full of hope, opportunity, and love; and

WHEREAS, foster parents require national, state, and community support to effectively care for children and youth who have experienced trauma, including abuse, neglect, or dependency; and

WHEREAS, the month of May provides an annual opportunity to highlight our foster families for their dedication, raise awareness of foster care, and empower youth and families to engage on this critical topic.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the General Assembly hereby recognizes May 2025 as Foster Care Month in the State of Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Delawareans are encouraged to join in commending foster families and youth in foster care throughout the First State, during this month and throughout the year.
