SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 95

RECOGNIZING DECEMBER 6. 2025, AS “IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WAR VETERANS RECOGNITION DAY” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the Afghanistan War was an armed conflict between the United States and its allies and the Taliban regime of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021; and

WHEREAS, the Iraq War was an armed conflict between a United States-led coalition force against the regime of Saddam Hussein from 2003 to 2011; and

WHEREAS, the Afghanistan War and Iraq War were part of the broader Global War on Terror; and

WHEREAS, the veterans who served in those wars faced one of the most challenging military environments in modern history, marked by insurgent warfare, improvised explosive devices, and urban combat; and

WHEREAS, more than 2.7 million American service members served in either the Afghanistan War or the Iraq War, including many Delawareans; and

WHEREAS, over 5,000 of those service members lost their lives, and thousands more sustained injuries that affected their physical and mental well-being; and

WHEREAS, many Delaware veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars continue to face challenges, such as traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other service-related disabilities that require ongoing support and awareness from their communities; and

WHEREAS, the sacrifices made by Delaware veterans during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars demonstrate the highest ideals of service, patriotism, and selflessness

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153

rd

General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that December 6, 2025, be recognized as “Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans Recognition Day” in the State of Delaware.
