SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 98
RECOGNIZING THE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION THAT THE LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL MAKES TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AS WELL AS TO THE WORLD AT LARGE, BY DESIGNATING JUNE 12, 2025, AS "DELAWARE LIONS CLUBS DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organization with more than 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide in over 200 countries; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1917, Lions Clubs International is best known for fighting blindness by conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medical equipment, and raising awareness of eye disease, and other laudable activities; and
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs also support a wide range of community projects, including environmental stewardship, hunger relief, youth programs, childhood cancer support, and assistance for seniors and individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, in fiscal year 2023-2024, the Lions Clubs International Foundation impacted lives around the world through 1580 grants totaling more than $46 million; and
WHEREAS, the Lions Club International Foundation was ranked the number one non-governmental organization in a 2007 study by
The Financial Times
, a distinction reaffirmed by a 2019 review from Charity Navigator, which awarded the Foundation its highest rating; and
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International supports communities in the aftermath of natural disasters by providing essential resources such as food, water, clothing, and medical supplies; and
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs have been active in Delaware since 1922, with 35 clubs and over 1,230 members who, through the Delaware Lions Foundation, have contributed more than $590,000 to local communities since 1991; and
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs receive no state funding to support their selfless service and charitable efforts on behalf of our communities; and
WHEREAS, for 102 years, Lions Clubs have lived up to their motto: “We Serve”.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that June 12, 2025, is hereby recognized as “Delaware Lions Clubs Day” in the State of Delaware.
