SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 19

PROCLAIMING MAY 19, 2026, AS "UNTIL JUSTICE JUST IS DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, all residents regardless of race, creed, or ethnicity deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and justice; and

WHEREAS, Delaware residents value initiatives that will end disparities and make the world a more equitable, inclusive, and dignified place for all; and

WHEREAS, Until Justice Just Is (UJJI) is YWCA’s annual national campaign to deepen awareness, spark conversation, and inspire collective action around the most pressing issues facing communities across the United States; and

WHEREAS, the campaign helps build community among those who work for the cause of social justice and raises awareness of the impacts of institutional and structural racism; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 campaign theme, “Democracy in Progress: Voting Rights at 250,” highlights the importance of protecting the fundamental right to vote and reflects on both the progress made in expanding access to the ballot and the barriers that still remain; and

WHEREAS, this theme challenges individuals and communities to reflect honestly on the progress made in expanding access to the ballot, recognize the inequities and systemic barriers that still persist, and take meaningful steps to protect the fundamental right to vote; and

WHEREAS, the YWCA is recognized for its work to support the Delaware community in its mission to eliminate racism, empower women, work to achieve social justice, help families, and strengthen communities; and

WHEREAS, this day can raise awareness about these specific injustices and their underlying causes, as well as empower individuals and communities to advocate for change while amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalized groups who are disproportionately affected by discrimination and oppression; and

WHEREAS, “Until Justice Just Is Day” emphasizes the ongoing struggle for justice, serves as a reminder that many individuals and communities continue to face systemic injustices and inequalities, and inspires efforts to advance equity, equality, and human rights for all through solidarity and unity among diverse groups.

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware that May 19, 2026, is proclaimed “Until Justice Just Is Day” in Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate urges all Delawareans to support the mission of the YWCA’s “Until Justice Just Is” campaign by advocating for and supporting their communities in a meaningful way.
