26-8

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

February 4, 2025

To honor and recognize Coach David "Tee" Johnson for achieving his 100th win as head coach
of Jackson-Reed High School's boys' varsity basketball team—a milestone reached faster
than any coach in the school's history— and celebrate his exceptional leadership and
unwavering commitment to excellence.

WHEREAS, Coach David "Tee" Johnson has demonstrated exceptional leadership and
dedication as the head coach of the Jackson-Reed High School boys' varsity basketball team
since his appointment in August 2021;

WHEREAS, on January 15, 2025, Coach Johnson secured his 100th victory with a
commanding 90-11 win over Bell Multicultural High School, achieving this milestone in just
four seasons and setting a record as the fastest coach in Jackson-Reed athletics history to reach
100 wins;

WHEREAS, under Coach Johnson's guidance, the team has amassed an impressive
overall record of 101-22, clinched 2 District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association
(DCIAA) championships, and maintained an outstanding home game performance with only 2
losses;
WHEREAS, Coach Johnson's commitment to player development is evident, having
mentored 12 players who advanced to collegiate basketball programs, including institutions such
as Georgetown University, George Washington University, Texas A&M University, and Old
Dominion University;

WHEREAS, Coach Johnson's achievements have garnered regional recognition,
exemplified by his selection as the head coach for the Capital All-Stars in the All-American
Capital Classic District All-Stars game;

WHEREAS, under Coach Johnson’s leadership the Jackson-Reed basketball team
achieved national rankings, reaching as high as No. 22 in the Score Book Live/Sports Illustrated
Power 25 in 2024;

WHEREAS, beyond high school basketball, Johnson is also a coach for Team Durant, an
AAU powerhouse, contributing to youth basketball development;

WHEREAS, Coach Johnson’s is an alumnus of Gonzaga College High School and
Lyndon State College, reflecting his deep roots in the D.C. basketball scene.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Coach David "Tee" Johnson Recognition Resolution of 2025”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the
accomplishments of the Coach David "Tee" Johnson and congratulates him on a great season.

Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
