A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-9
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
February 4, 2025
To honor and recognize the Washington Commanders on their remarkable 2024-2025 season in
the National Football League.
WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders have experienced a remarkable resurgence in
the 2024-2025 NFL season, finishing the regular season with a 12-5 record and securing the sixth
seed in the National Football Conference playoffs, a testament to the collective effort and
determination of the players, coaches, and staff;
WHEREAS, Coach Quinn's strategic acumen led the Commanders to their first playoff
appearance since 2020 and their first playoff victory since 2005, with a 23–20 win over the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round;
WHEREAS, the Commanders continued their remarkable postseason run by defeating
the top-seeded Detroit Lions 45–31 in the Divisional Round;
WHEREAS, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has emerged as a transformative leader
for the Washington Commanders, completing 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards, throwing 25
touchdowns, and rushing for 891 yards and 6 touchdowns during the regular season, showcasing
his dual-threat capabilities;
WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders offensive line has demonstrated remarkable
resilience and strength, allowing the fewest sacks in the NFC and providing crucial protection for
the quarterback, as well as paving the way for a balanced and dynamic running game;
WHEREAS, the Commanders' offense tied for the second-most total points in a season in
franchise history, scoring 485 points, and ranked among the top three in rushing and total yards;
WHEREAS, the Commanders’ receiving corps, led by Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson,
and Curtis Samuel, has consistently delivered explosive plays and key contributions, helping
propel the offense to one of the best in the league;

WHEREAS, the Commanders have shown a strong commitment to community
engagement, exemplified by initiatives such as the "Commanders Day of Service," which
includes youth football clinics, partnerships with local museums, and support for public charter
schools;
WHEREAS, wide receiver Terry McLaurin set a franchise record with 13 touchdown
receptions in a single season, earning him a second-team All-Pro selection;
WHEREAS, under Head Coach Dan Quinn’s leadership, the Washington Commanders
advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, where their season
concluded;
WHEREAS, on January 30, 1983, the Commanders defeated the Miami Dolphins with a
score of 27-17, marking their first Super Bowl victory;
WHEREAS, on January 31, 1988, the Commanders triumphed over the Denver Broncos
with a decisive 42-10 win, showcasing a record-breaking performance, marking their second
Super Bowl victory;
WHEREAS, on January 26, 1992, the Washington Commanders secured their third
Super Bowl title by defeating the Buffalo Bills 37-24, demonstrating exceptional skill and
teamwork.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Washington Commanders Recognition Resolution of 2025”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the
accomplishments of the Washington Commanders and congratulates them on their great season.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
