26-23

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

April 1, 2025

To officially recognize and commemorate the Washington Nationals as they celebrate twenty years as a
Major League Baseball franchise in the District of Columbia.

WHEREAS, on March 27th, 2025, the Washington Nationals will commence their 20th season in
the nation’s capital, marking 2 decades since baseball’s triumphant return to Washington, DC in 2005;

WHEREAS, the Nationals have provided countless memorable moments, from the inaugural
game at RFK stadium and Ryan Zimmerman’s iconic walk-off home run during the first game at
Nationals Park in 2008, to clinching the World Series Championship in 2019;

WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, while logos, players and even ballparks have evolved, the
unwavering support and passion of Nationals fans have remained a constant, embodying the spirit of
#NATITUDE;

WHEREAS, to honor this milestone, the Nationals have launched “NATS20”, a season-long
celebration featuring the “Cheers to 20 Years Sweepstakes”, the most extensive in club history, along
with in-park giveaways, special alumni appearances, and opportunities for fans to relive and recreate their
favorite Nationals moments;

WHEREAS, the Nationals have unveiled a commemorative 20th anniversary logo, symbolizing 2
decades of baseball excellence and community engagement in Washington, DC;

WHEREAS, the Nationals have invited fans to select their favorite 20 moments from the past 2
decades, which will be showcased throughout Nationals Park beginning on Opening Day;

WHEREAS, the Nationals Homecoming Gala will celebrate the profound impact of baseball on
the community, featuring a fan fest and red carpet event at The Wharf, culminating in the presentation of
the 2025 Power of Baseball Award at The Anthem;

WHEREAS, the Nationals 20 year journey reflects resilience, dedication, and a commitment to
excellence that continues to enrich the cultural and social fabric of Washington, DC and the region.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution
may be cited as the “Washington Nationals 20th Anniversary Recognition Resolution of 2025.”

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia hereby celebrates and commends the
Washington Nationals for their 20 years of contributions to our city and extends to the organization
appreciation and gratitude for the joy and unity they bring to the Washington, DC community.

Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
