A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-28
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
April 1, 2025
To recognize, honor, and celebrate the late Felix Sambuchino, Jr. for his contributions to the
Glover Park community and the District of Columbia.
WHEREAS, Felix Sambuchino, though born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 23, 1945, to
Mary Mancini and Felix Sambuchino, became a beloved neighborhood icon in his adopted home
of Glover Park in Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino’s commitment to community began at an early age,
helping younger students with their homework and science projects while attending high school;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino attended Gannon University and received the Innovative
Engineering Award every year while there and many years later passed on his love of science to
his grandsons;
WHEREAS, following graduation, Mr. Sambuchino joined the United States Air Force
and was deployed to investigate the sinking of the USS Thresher nuclear submarine;
WHEREAS, upon leaving the Air Force, Mr. Sambuchino was awarded the Outstanding
Achievement Award;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino moved to Washington, D.C. in 1969 to join UNIVAC as a
computer consultant;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino fell in love with his new home and in particular the Glover
Park community where he lived for the remainder of his life;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino served as the President of the Glover Park Citizens'
Association and organized the annual Glover Park Day in June, for which he served as emcee
and as a willing sponsor and participant in the dunk tank;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino played in the Glover Park Coed Softball League from 1988
to 1997, winning 3 championships;

WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino served as the tech expert for Glover Park Village and
computer teacher to senior citizens in the community;
WHEREAS, every December Mr. Sambuchino served as one of the set-up and operating
engineers for the trains that encircled the National Christmas Tree on The Ellipse to the delight
of hundreds of children;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino traveled around Glover Park and the rest of the city on a
green bicycle he called Forrest Green;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino passed away on January 18, 2025;
WHEREAS, Mr. Sambuchino is survived by his wife Brenda, daughter Kiersten, 2
grandsons, Bradley and Brandon, sister Eve Grimaldi, 2 younger brothers, Charles and Roy
Sambuchino, and many nieces and nephews;
WHEREAS, with Mr. Sambuchino’s passing, Glover Park and the District of Columbia
have lost a community leader who brought joy and learning to and improved the lives of
thousands.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Felix Sambuchino, Jr. Posthumous Recognition Resolution of
2025”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes, honors, and celebrates Felix
Sambuchino, Jr. for his considerable contributions to the District.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
