A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

26-64

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

July 1, 2025

To declare May 8, 2026, as Wydad Athletic Club Day in the District of Columbia.

WHEREAS, this day May 8th celebrates the founding of Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) in
Casablanca, Morocco in 1937;
WHEREAS, WAC was established to promote sports and national pride and has become
a symbol of excellence in Moroccan Football;
WHEREAS, WAC has won numerous national championships and cups, earning a
prominent place in African football history;
WHEREAS, WAC boasts a dedicated fanbase, who will celebrate May 8 as WAC Day in
Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, this passionate support reflects WAC’s commitment to showcasing
Moroccan talent globally; and
WHEREAS, WAC is set to represent Morocco in the Club World Cup in June 2025,
furthering its legacy.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Wydad Athletic Club Day Recognition Resolution of 2025”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the history,
achievements, and enduring spirit of the Wydad Athletic Club, inspiring future generations in the
Metropolitan area of the District of Columbia, and declares May 8, 2026 as Wydad Athletic Club
Day in the District of Columbia.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
