A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-74
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
September 17, 2025
To honor and recognize the Howard University Bison Softball Team for their historic 2025
championship season, capturing both the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)
Regular Season and Tournament titles, and for their outstanding contributions to
athletics, academics, and the pride of the District of Columbia.
WHEREAS, the Howard University softball team achieved its first MEAC Regular
Season Championship in 15 years, posting a record breaking 19–1 conference record and setting
a new program benchmark for wins;
WHEREAS, the Bison carried their success into postseason play, capturing the MEAC
Tournament Championship with a decisive 6–1 victory over South Carolina State, securing their
third ever MEAC Tournament title;
WHEREAS, for the first time in program history, Howard claimed both the MEAC
regular season and tournament championships in the same season;
WHEREAS, graduate student pitcher Ameenah Ballenger delivered a season defining
performance in the championship game, limiting South Carolina State to just 4 hits, and was
named the MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player;
WHEREAS, Head Coach Victoria “Tori” Tyson, who reached her 149th career win
during the tournament, was honored as the MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Coach for her
leadership in guiding the Bison to their historic season;
WHEREAS, Assistant Coach Camille Navarro, a former standout player, brought
experience and continuity to the program, strengthening the foundation of the team’s success;
WHEREAS, 9 Bison earned All-MEAC First Team honors, including Rookie of the Year
Lauryn Jones and All-Tournament Team selection Mia Gonzales, reflecting the
team’s extraordinary depth and talent;

WHEREAS, the team led the MEAC in offensive production, tallying 392 hits, 100 more
than any other team, and scoring 245 runs, far surpassing their competition;
WHEREAS, 14 members of the team were named to the MEAC All-Academic Team for
maintaining GPAs of 3.0 or higher, demonstrating their excellence as scholar-athletes;
WHEREAS, by virtue of their MEAC Championship, the Bison earned an automatic
berth in the 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament, where they advanced to the Durham Regional to
face nationally ranked Duke University, further cementing their reputation as a rising program on
the national stage.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution
may be cited as the “Howard University Softball Championship Recognition Resolution of
2025.”
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the Howard University
Bison Softball Team for their historic 2025 season, their championship victories, and their
embodiment of athletic and academic excellence. The Council commends the players, coaches,
and staff for their achievements and congratulates them on bringing honor and pride to Howard
University and the District of Columbia.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
