A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-86

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
October 7, 2025

To recognize and celebrate Rev. Dr. Robert G. Childs on the occasion of his 40th Pastoral
Anniversary at Berean Baptist Church.
WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Robert G. Childs earned a Master of Divinity Degree from
Howard University in Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, Rev. Childs has been licensed to preach for 50 years. On January 12, 1985,
he was elected Pastor of Washington , D.C.’s Berean Baptist Church, a post he has held for 40
years;
WHEREAS, after graduating from Howard’s School of Divinity, Rev. Childs remained
there as both a Lecturer and Adjunct Professor in Practical Ministries for more than 25 years. He
also served as the National President of the Howard University School of Divinity Alumni
Association from 2011 to 2022;
WHEREAS, Rev. Childs holds a Doctor of Humane Letters from the Maple Springs
Baptist Bible College and Seminary and is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Degree at the
Virginia Theological Seminary;
WHEREAS, from 1985 to 2010, he also hosted a Teaching Ministry Radio Broadcast on
WYCB (1340 AM) radio station;
WHEREAS, in 1996, Rev. Childs was elected as an At-Large Representative to the District
of Columbia Board of Education, and during his last year on the Board, he served as Board
President;
WHEREAS, since 2010, Rev. Childs has been an instructor in Ministry and Church
Administration at the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary. He has also been a professor
and an instructor of Hebrew Language and Church Music since the fall semester of 2019 at the
Maple Springs Baptist Bible College and Seminary;
WHEREAS, Rev. Childs received the Benjamin E. Mays Fellowship, granted through the
Fund for Theological Education. Rev. Childs also is one of the honored recipients of the
Outstanding Community Service Award from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Sigma
Chapter of Washington, D.C., into which he was initiated in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Childs has demonstrated a deep commitment to the District of
Columbia over a decades long career in ministry and public service.
RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the "Rev. Dr. Robert G. Childs 40th Pastoral Anniversary Ceremonial
Recognition Resolution of 2025”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia salutes Rev. Dr. Robert G. Childs for his
diligent efforts to improve the lives and outcomes of District of Columbia residents, particularly
the youth of the District, and commends him for 40 years at his post as pastor of Berean Baptist
Church.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
