26-93

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

October 7, 2025

To recognize and honor the life, service, and legacy of Michelle Bundy, affectionately known as
Lil Michelle, Aunt Bida, and Mitzi, and to commend her for her decades of dedication to
justice, education, community service, faith, and family in the District of Columbia.
WHEREAS, Michelle Bundy was born the second daughter of the late Elnora Bundy and
educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools, graduating from McKinley Tech High
School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Administration of Justice from the
University of the District of Columbia and a paralegal certificate from Georgetown University;

WHEREAS, Michelle began her professional career in 1972 as a salesperson at Lerner’s
Department Store, but soon pursued her passion for justice and community through roles at the
Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, as a courtroom clerk of the D.C. Superior
Court, and later on Capitol Hill for Congresswoman Maxine Waters, which she regarded as her
proudest professional accomplishment;

WHEREAS, Michelle was deeply civically engaged, often volunteering with D.C.
Council members, drafting and signing petitions for justice, and earning the admiration of family
and friends who believed she was a natural lawyer due to her powerful ability to argue and
present a case;

WHEREAS, Michelle continued to demonstrate resilience and service even while
undergoing dialysis, becoming certified as a substitute teacher in D.C. Public Schools, where
she was affectionately known as “Abuela” by students, and volunteering to teach English as a
second language to immigrant communities;

WHEREAS, Michelle joined Israel Baptist Church in 1989 and faithfully served on the
Usher Board, Culinary Committee, and the M.L. Shearin Voices of Praise Choir before
answering the call to become a Missionary, embodying her faith not only in her church service
but also in her daily acts of generosity, compassion, and advocacy for those in need;

WHEREAS, Michelle was beloved for her laughter, joy, and zest for life, with passions
that included cooking, travel, deep-sea fishing, painting, gardening, and creating jewelry, as well
as her annual tradition of celebrating her birthday at the Washington football team’s rivalry game
against the Philadelphia Eagles;
WHEREAS, Michelle cherished her sisters Consuella, Kathleen, and Carla, whom she
called her most prized possessions until the birth of her beloved niece Monya, and she leaves
behind a devoted family including cousins in New Jersey and Maryland, brother Edward, and a
wide circle of dear friends from her civic and church communities, including Yvonne, Theresa,
Vincent, Charles, Steve Glaude, and Donald Temple.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Michelle Bundy Recognition Resolution of 2025.”
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the life of
Michelle Bundy for her decades of service to the District of Columbia, her unwavering
dedication to justice, her contributions to education and faith, and the love she gave to her family,
friends, church, and community.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
