A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-108
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
November 4, 2025
To honor November as Family Caregivers Month in the District of Columbia, honoring the
invaluable contributions of family caregivers who provide essential support to loved ones
across the District.
WHEREAS, November is recognized nationally as Family Caregivers Month, a time to
celebrate and honor the selfless individuals who provide care and assistance to family members,
friends, and neighbors in need due to aging, illness, or disability;
WHEREAS, family caregivers, both paid and unpaid, play a vital role in helping loved
ones live with dignity, independence, and quality of life, often balancing their own
responsibilities while offering emotional and physical care;
WHEREAS, over 109,000 residents serve as family caregivers in the District, providing
critical support to ailing parents, spouses and other loved ones;
WHEREAS, with more than 120,000 residents 60 or older currently living in the District
– a number which is projected to significantly increase over the next decade – the need for
caregiver services continues to rise as life expectancies increase as we embrace a rising senior
population in the District;
WHEREAS, the value of the services provided by caregivers in the District is worth more
than $1 billion, including the preparation and serving of meals, medication management, and
handling various medical tasks;
WHEREAS, organizations in the District such as the Department of Aging and
Community Living, the DC Villages Collaborative, the UDC Institute of Gerontology, and the
Sibley Senior Association Club Memory and Alzheimer’s program work to raise community
awareness of the importance of caregiving and emphasize the importance of advancing policy
solutions and community-based support systems for caregivers, as well as provide direct
caregiver services to our senior population;

WHEREAS, the designation of November 2025 as Family Caregivers Month in the
District highlights the need for continued advocacy, accessible resources, and mental health
support for those who dedicate their time and love to others.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Family Caregivers Month Recognition Resolution of 2025”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes November as National Family
Caregivers Month and commends caregivers across the District for their ongoing service,
compassion, and dedication to the health and dignity of their loved ones.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
