A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

November 18, 2025

To recognize and celebrate Labyrinth Games and Puzzles, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary,
for its exceptional retail offerings and longstanding commitment to the community.

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles was established in 2010 by Kathleen Donahue
on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, in the heart of Capitol Hill;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles is a community -focused games and puzzles
store that delivers a wide, well-curated product selection, incomparable customer service, and fun,
community-building events that reflect the diversity and interests of their customers;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles is more than a retail store – it is a community
gathering space where customers can meet new friends, be creative, and learn new skills;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles’ pleasant and knowledgeable staff engage
shoppers and help with game recommendations;

WHEREAS, in 2015 and 2016, Donahue expanded the storefront, cementing Labyrinth
Games and Puzzles as a major retailer in the Eastern Market small business community;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles always develops new ideas for community-
centered events, including Educator Nights and a Used Game Sale to give back to the community,
“Boozy Board Game Nights”, and tabletop tournaments;

WHEREAS, their Annual Used Game Sale raises more than $15,000 each year for their
Teacher Wish List Fund, free school game nights, and their in-store demo game library;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles responded to the challenges of the COVID-19
pandemic nimbly, delivering games and bringing joy to isolated Washingtonians;

WHEREAS, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles has been honored and recognized numerous
times, including a s the 2024 America’s Retail Champion by the National Retail Federation, the
“Best of DC Children’s Toy Store” by the Washington City Paper, the Retailer of the Year by the

DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, and one of the “Coolest Small
Businesses” in DC by Business Insider;

WHEREAS, Kathleen Donahue is a warm, thoughtful, creative, and committed leader in
the Eastern Market, Capitol Hill, and District-wide small business communities; and

WHEREAS, most importantly, Labyrinth Games and Puzzles puts smiles on faces young
and old every day through their excellent customer service, offerings, and events.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this
resolution may be cited as the “Labyrinth Games and Puzzles 15th Anniversary Recognition
Resolution of 2025”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates Labyrinth Games
and Puzzles, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, for its exceptional retail offerings and
longstanding commitment to the community.

Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
