IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

May 5, 2026

To recognize the work of childcare providers , to celebrate their continuous and important impact
on individuals and communities, and to declare Friday, May 8, 2026, as Provider
Appreciation Day in the District of Columbia.

WHEREAS, Child Care Aware® of America and organizations nationwide are
recognizing Child Care Providers on this day;
WHEREAS, the childcare system supports children’s growth, development, and
educational advancement while creating positive economic impacts for families and
communities;
WHEREAS, childcare providers are essential to the health of our communities by
fostering safe and welcoming spaces, supporting working families, and creating enriching
environments where children develop lifelong skills;
WHEREAS, the District of Columbia recognizes that childcare has been and continues to
be a lifeline for families, communities, and the economy;

WHEREAS, support for affordable, accessible, high-quality childcare represents a
worthy commitment to help families work, support children’s healthy development and learning,
and keep our economy growing.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution
may be cited as the “Provider Appreciation Day Ceremonial Resolution of 2026”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia declares May 8, 202 6, as Provider
Appreciation Day in the District of Columbia.

Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
