A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
26-165
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
June 2, 2026
To recognize and honor Laurice Gadson Redhead on the occasion of her eightieth birthday for
her lifelong contributions to education, faith, civic engagement, and community service
in the District of Columbia and beyond.
WHEREAS, Laurice Gadson Redhead was born on July 2, 1946, in Washington, DC, and
will celebrate her eightieth birthday in 2026;
WHEREAS, Ms. Redhead is a proud alumna of Holy Comforter School and a graduate of
Howard University, institutions that have long served as pillars of education and leadership in the
District;
WHEREAS, Ms. Redhead has been a devoted and respected member of the St. Augustine
Catholic Church, and has served as a member of the Cemetery Rededication Committees for the
Epiphany, Holy Rood, and Holy Trinity Churches in Georgetown;
WHEREAS, Laurice Gadson Redhead has been a longstanding member of the
Association for the Study of African American Life and History and the DC History Center, and
has generously volunteered her time by serving as a Docent at the National Museum of African
American History and Culture, helping to spread awareness of the history and contributions of
African Americans;
WHEREAS, Ms. Redhead has made significant contributions to education in the District
by mentoring and teaching District of Columbia Public School students and by mentoring
Howard University students through the University’s former Center for Academic
Reinforcement.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution
may be cited as the “Laurice Gadson Redhead Recognition Resolution of 2026”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia celebrates the milestone of Ms.
Redhead’s eightieth birthday and recognizes her lifelong commitment to education, community
service, and civic engagement in the District of Columbia.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
