IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
To confirm the appointment of Tomeka Watson-Lewis to the Students in the Care of D.C.
Coordinating Committee.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the "Students in the Care ofD.C. Coordinating Committee Tomeka
Watson-Lewis Confirmation Resolution of 2025".
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

as a current or former student involved in the foster care system member of the Students in the
Care ofD.C. Coordinating Committee, established by section 3 of the Students in the Care of
D.C. Coordinating Committee Act of 2018, effective April 11, 2019 (D.C. Law 22-303; D.C.
Official Code§ 2-1599.02), filling a vacant seat for a term to end November 15, 2028.
Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution,

Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

Mrs.
Tomeka Watson-Lewis currently serves as the Executive Director
and CEO of Mute the Violence DC, where she works with at -risk youth
aged 11 to 24, focusing on gun violence prevention. As a native
Washingtonian, wife, mother, and full -time student, she is deeply
committed to giving back to her community.
Mrs. Watson-Lewis was a ward of the state and emancipated at a young
age, which shaped her resilience and deepened her commitment to giving
back to her community. She is passionate about sharing her story to
inspire and uplift others. Her own experience of emancipating from the
foster care system has fueled her passion for supporting and empowering
youth. This perspective, combined with her growing knowledge of
criminal justice and family dynamics, will allow her to contribute meaningfully to the work of the
Students in the Care of D.C. Coordinating Committee.
A Ward 5 resident, Mrs. Tomeka Watson-Lewis earned her Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice
from Prince George’s Community College and is working towards receiving her Bachelor of Arts
in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
