In accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-
142; D.C. Official Code § 1- 523.01), and pursuant to section 2 of the Commission on African-
American Affairs Establishment Act of 2012, effective March 14, 2012 (D.C. Law 19 -106; D.C.
Official Code § 3-1441), I am pleased to nominate the following individual:

A PROPOSED RESOLUTION
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
To confirm the reappointment of Jacqueline Stallworth to the Commission on African-American
Affairs.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the "Commission on African-American Affairs Jacqueline Stallworth
Confirmation Resolution of 2025".
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the reappointment of:
Jacqueline Stallworth
Gorman Terrace, SE
Washington, DC 20019
(Ward 7)
as a public member of the Commission on African-American Affairs, pursuant to section 2 of the
Commission on African-American Affairs Establishment Act of 2012, effective March 14, 2012
(D.C. Law 19-106; D.C. Official Code§ 3-1441), for a term to end July 8, 2027.
Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution,
upon its adoption, to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor.
Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

Jacqueline Stallworth
Ms. Jacqueline Stallworth is currently a high school English teacher who
is passionate about diversifying the high school curriculum so that all
students feel included and empowered. She has over eighteen years of
teaching experiences in both urban and suburban high schools where she
has used diverse literature to help foster the love of reading diverse text,
build empathy, develop critical thinking skills, and to promote
courageous writing.
Ms. Stallworth is the writer of The Big Sea, a literary blog where she has
written about her experiences with over 150 books. Her blog serves as a
resource for recommendations of texts that cover a variety of topics.
Ms. Stallworth has spoken on diversity at national conferences and has also enjoyed being a guest
lecturer where she has had the opportunity to inspire other educators to do courageous work. She
has explored the ideas of preparing all students for advanced classes, getting away from the single
story as stated by the famed author Chimamanda Adichie, writing courageously, and using
literature to build empathy. Her thoughts on using literature to build empathy were quoted in the
International Literacy Association Magazine.
A Ward 7 resident, Ms. Stallworth earned her Bachelor of Arts in Language Arts Education from
Tuskegee University, her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Michigan State
University, and her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from George
Washington University.
