evaluating functions of the interdisciplinary Trauma Service. Trauma Services is an operation that
incorporates all aspects of healthcare, within the acute care setting. In addition to clinical services, I am
the liaison to the Executive Leadership team and the Department of Surgery. I direct distinct teams,
Trauma registry, Injury Prevention and Outreach, Trauma Education, Trauma Social Work, and grant
coordination. I am also responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the
multidisciplinary approach to the care of the hospital. I maintain trauma certifications and am certified
to direct national curriculums for Trauma Nurses and Physicians. An essential component of the
program is Level 1 American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verification and Level 1 State Designation.
In this position, I have revamped the service including growing the employees from 3 to 17 and
completing 3 successful verifications, one with no deficiencies.

Grant funded program ($671,710.00) which grew from $248,000 under my leadership, at
Howard University Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HUH-VIP) offers immediate support for
survivors of community violence. The HUH VIP team assist clients throughout the duration of their
hospital stay and post-discharge. The program provides culturally appropriate and trauma informed
support services that promote holistic healing and reduce recidivism. Group Therapy (for men and
women), ongoing case management post-discharge, referrals, and linkages to appropriate community
organizations (e.g. housing, core service agencies/OMHC, vocational and educational training
programs, etc.), quarterly education seminars (financial planning, mental and physical health and
substance abuse), assistance with resume writing and form filing to include: DC Crime Victim
Compensation application, Job applications, Medicaid, and related programs. In this role, I am
responsible for planning and executing the grant, which includes creating the budget, support program
staff, interpret and submit monthly and quarterly data to funders, and track program outcomes and
deliverables.

Ms. Kenyatta Hazlewood is a trauma program manager at Howard
University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center.
As a trauma program manager, Ms. Hazlewood is responsible for
developing, organizing, and implementing interdisciplinary trauma
services at Howard University Hospital. She has been involved with
trauma-based intervention for over 10 years and has also previously acted
as a health mentor at the Latin American Youth Center.
A Ward 1 resident, Ms. Hazlewood earned her Bachelor of Science in
Nursing and her Bachelor of Health Sciences in Health Management from
Howard University. She also earned her Master of Public Health from
George Washington University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health degree f rom
Walden University.
