African Affairs Act of 2006, effective June 8, 2006 (D.C. Law 16-111, D.C. Official Code § 2-1394),

17 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
18 resolution may be cited as the "Commission on African Affairs Fetlework Daley Confirmation
19 Resolution of 2026".
20 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

31 Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution,

Ms. F
etlework Daley is a proud Ethiopian American who immigrated to
the United States in 1987 at the age of ten. Ms. Daley comes from a legacy
of public service; her father served during the reign of Emperor Haile
Selassie, assisting immigrants in their transition to the United States and
receiving recognition for his service. This foundation has shaped her
lifelong commitment to civic engagement, cultural advocacy, and service
to African and African-diaspora communities.
Ms. Daley has been an employee of American University since 2000,
contributing to the institution’s academic and administrative mission for
over two decades. She is a strong believer in diversity, equity, and
inclusion and has collaborated with the university’s African Studies
Program in support of educational programming, cultural dialogue, and community engagement.
She has also participated in and supported lectures and presentations at American University
focused on African history, culture, and the global African diaspora.
A dedicated Pan -Africanist and community organizer, Ms. Daley has served in leadership and
planning roles within the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Rastafari community. In 2019, she
served on the planning committee for a major cultural event organized collaboratively by the
Ethiopian and Rastafari communities and hosted at the Embassy of Ethiopia. The event was
formally recognized by the Office of Muriel Bowser as Ethiopian Day, and Ms. Daley personally
received the official mayoral proclamation on behalf of the community.
A Ward 4 resident, Ms. Daley earned her high school diploma from William High School in
Alexandria, Virginia.
