18 RESOLVED , BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
19 resolution may be cited as the "District of Columbia Commemorative Works Committee Joe
20 Coleman Confirmation Resolution of 2026".
21 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the reappointment of:

Mr.
J oe Coleman is a Washington, D.C.- based artist specializing in
realistic and arbitrary color murals and bronze and repurposed material
sculpting. Mr. Coleman is also a current member of the Commemorative
Works Committee.
Mr. Coleman has served as an arts advocate, educator, and professional
practitioner for over 20 years. Mr. Coleman has created several notable
art pieces for localities and private businesses including the Reston
Town Center mural, a lobby mural at the D.C. Men’s Shelter in
Southeast DC, and the cafeteria mural at West Elementary School.
Mr. Coleman is a member of the Corcoran School of Art Alumni
Association, Washington Sculptors Group, Council for Exceptional Children, and Council of
Administration of Special Education. His works earned him the East of the River Distinguished
Artist Award amongst several others.
A Ward 7 resident, Mr. Coleman earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from
Morehouse College, his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Corcoran School of Art and Design, his
Master of Fine Arts from Howard University, and his Master of Arts in Education and Human
Development from George Washington University.
