Initiative; creating s. 430.5016, F.S.; requiring the 3

for the initiative; providing requirements for the 7

requiring the Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Committee 9

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13

Section 1. Section 430.5016, Florida Statutes, is created 15
to read: 16
430.5016 Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Initiative.— 17
(1) The Department of Elderly Affairs shall contract for 18
the development and implementation of the Alzheimer's Disease 19
Awareness Initiative. The initiative must provide an opportunity 20
for residents of this state affected by Alzheimer's disease and 21
related forms of dementia to obtain information that is 22
validated by national research. 23
(2) The initiative must, at a minimum: 24
(a) Include a website and other related electronic 25

resources that address all of the following: 26
1. The advantages of early detection and diagnosis. 27
2. How to reduce risk factors. 28
3. The importance of brain health. 29
4. The importance of talking to a heath care provider 30
about being screened and assessed for Alzheimer's Disease and 31
related forms of dementia. 32
5. How to promote healthy aging. 33
6. Recent developments in Alzheimer's and related forms of 34
dementia research and the availability of clinical trials. 35
7. Community resources available for those affected by the 36
disease and related forms of dementia. 37
8. Any related topics deemed appropriate by the 38
department. 39
(b) Use the department's Alzheimer's Disease and Related 40
Dementias Resource Guide as a part of the initiative materials. 41
(c) Promote health care provider education in partnership 42
with the Department of Health to help improve care and services 43
for patients with Alzheimer's disease and related forms of 44
dementia in accordance with s. 381.825. 45
(d) Include print, digital advertising, and advertising on 46
social media platforms. 47
(e) Include a statewide mobile in-person outreach program 48
that prioritizes those in underserved communities and provides 49
information on issues relating to Alzheimer's disease and 50

related forms of dementia, including, but not limited to, brain 51
health, risk education, and early detection and diagnosis. The 52
program may also provide referrals to the department and provide 53
information regarding any available community resources relating 54
to Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia. 55
(3)(a) The entity with which the department contracts for 56
the Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Initiative must be a statewide 57
nonprofit organization that: 58
1. Has a history of focusing on those affected by 59
Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia, and their 60
care and support, including providing online resources to 61
caregivers and people living with the disease and through 62
community-based events. 63
2. Has the organizational capacity to manage a statewide 64
initiative and successfully carry out the requirements of this 65
section. 66
(b) The entity must collaborate with other relevant state 67
agencies and private organizations to develop and implement the 68
initiative. 69
(4) The Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Committee shall 70
annually evaluate and make recommendations to the department and 71
the Legislature concerning the need for future funding for the 72
Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Initiative each year as a part of 73
its annual report. 74
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2026. 75
